As you may or may
not know by now, Planned Parenthood is a pro-choice agency
and our counselling program supports this to the fullest.
This means that when you speak with a
counsellor at Planned Parenthood, whether on the telephone or in
person, a counsellor will be happy to give you information about
ALL of your options regarding an unplanned pregnancy, birth control,
or sexuality concerns.
Planned Parenthood counsellors provide
objective, non-judgmental counselling and information about:
- All methods of birth control and safer sex
- Each of your THREE options when faced with an
unplanned pregnancy - parenting, abortion and adoption
- Fertility/Infertility
- Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and
diseases
- Sexuality concerns
- Healthy relationships
- Community resources
We also provide:
- Pregnancy testing (we appreciate a five
dollar donation for the test, but NEVER refuse testing for
inability to donate) - results are immediate
- Appropriate referrals
- Free condoms (regular, coloured,
flavoured) as well as free spermicide and lubricant when
available
Our counselling team is here to listen and provide
information and support. We want to help you make informed choices.
Only you can make a decision that is best suited to your situation.
We hope that this will lead to healthier and more responsible sexuality.
All services provided through the counselling
program are CONFIDENTIAL. No one outside of Planned Parenthood will
be given any information about you, unless:
- You have signed a consent form
- You have asked for a referral
- We are required to by law
The volunteer counselling team is comprised of a
caring, supportive group of individuals who have completed a 45
hour training course offered through Planned Parenthood.
All of our volunteer counsellors are supervised
by the Counselling Coordinator. If you counsellor does not have
the necessary information, she/he will consult with the Counselling
Coordinator, in order to fill your request.
